since yoav being relativly new to the forum had just one week to get to know you all and immediately flamed Amit (FYI yoav Amit is the silly dragon
and has pointed to exactly some of the issues that piss me off and IMHO prevent this forum from becoming a place for high quality material.
UGC (User generated content) is plagued with the issue of content quality, source verification , spam and so forth.
i say that if we want our forums (or at least some of them) to be of high quality then we should have these ones restricted (as in read only for most people - so that only participants that are deemed having some sensical contribution will be included
i think being accountable for what you write is critical and that means that people cannot use names like "dragon" "pink angel or whatever - at least not in these parts of the forum
also i believe that people who tend to add comments like "thanks to dori" or "i agree - that was great man" are wasting some of our bandwidth in these "high end" parts of the forum - dori - we all trust you more or less why not add some moderation either by you or some sort of peer mechanism
as for Amit's comments (that, from knowing him personally were probabaly not meant to be offensive
why are you such a stickler for keeping everything so lame, silly and disorganized?
i just dont get the fact that you immediately equate structure with things like corruption, due process, red tape and loss of identity or whatever - this is very similar to the lifecycle of say a startup company:

in the bigining its Mojahadin style with 5 people doing whatever in any way possible - they fly coach - stay over weekends cause the tickets are cheaper and use cracked SW tools and friends from the army - they sleep and eat and work in a single bedroom apartment
after a while they are 15 and then they need to do division of work and not everyone knows everything - also there starts to be some structure - say documenting the SW you write becasue you are not the only guy coding - or writing up your last trip's expense account for the firms part time 80 year old acountant that is actually one of the founder's step mothers' older brother- they are still commando but everybody has their own bed by now
then they get the round A and then they are 40 witha full time HR manager, minutes of the board meeting and so on - but are still cut throat offensively and in the market - but maybe they fly business on longer flights...or stay at hotels instead of in aunt ruth's flat in the bronx - they still have fun and are good friends and work like crazy - but they have already started thinking of Patek Philppe wrist watchs and the Bit Heads can actually buy SW and not just use freeware or opensource - but of course their auditors (Earnst and Young) advise that certain measures be put in place to get better metrics for customer profitability and the Legal is darfting very crafty term sheets for the VC's...

and the new balck female CEO of their thriving empire is ripe with concern regarding Sarbanes-Oxley conformity and backdating or whatever

i think what yoav was suggesting is that some structure and introducing maybe new ways of doingthings might help spice things up and get people more motivated, in tune and aware of their options and where things can and should go
maybe tryouts are fun and good - how do we know
maybe rosters and some order will forster team loyalty and competitiveness
if we just keep the current state of affairs where mess is abound the future generations will have a harder time getting their act together and clearing our shit up
it is our responsibility to try and set some coherrnt structure in the mid term that will help tunnel all the good will and energies that people like yoav, me chen dori amit avigal zolo, hila or whatever have into meaningful progress - why stop it? we are not against the people we are all for the people - Power to the people!!!
now i dont pretend to know exactky what that structure should be or how to implement the five year plan the best way i do know that stagnating is not the right approach
btw amit - now i know why Hapoel TelAviv is no good - they just sit around and do whatever and its all cool
